Artist Spotlight: Terence Young
Born into a musical family in South Carolina, Terence Young picked up the guitar at 10 and never put it down. Today, he’s one of the region’s most in-demand bandleaders and a national touring artist whose concerts fuse smooth jazz feel, R&B pulse, and gospel/rock dynamics. Young has released over a dozen instrumental albums—his official site cites 14—spanning originals and thoughtful reimaginations. Key titles include The Guitar Diary and his stream-only project The Playlist; he continued releasing new music with the single “Closer” in 2025.
On stage, The Terence Young Experience is equal parts precision and joy—intimate ballads, sing-along R&B guitar anthems, and extended grooves that spotlight a seasoned ensemble. Along the way, Young has co-billed or appeared with artists such as Kenny G, Boney James, Patti LaBelle, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Charlie Wilson, and more. Based in Columbia, SC, he also mentors and leads projects across the Carolinas, keeping community and craft at the center of his work. (Terence Young Experience)
