Artist Spotlight: Marcel Anderson

Neo-Soul • R&B • Contemporary Soul • Soul Jazz

Marcel Anderson is a neo-soul, R&B, contemporary, and soul jazz artist whose voice blends soulful storytelling, smooth melodies, and electrifying stage presence. Known for a sound that is both soothing and powerful, Marcel doesn’t just perform — he creates experiences that move the heart and stir the spirit.

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Marcel’s musical journey began early. Raised in a family of musicians and singers, he discovered his gift for singing as one of the many passions placed within him by God. Though shy as a child, his life changed when he was given his first solo — “Give Us This Day” — at just eight years old. From that moment forward, he has been singing nonstop, using his voice to inspire, encourage, and uplift others through soulful expression.

Born alongside his twin brother, saxophonist Marcus Anderson, and growing up with older twin brothers Alphaeus and Aaron, Marcel’s early career was rooted in family harmony. Together, they formed The Anderson Twins, performing throughout Spartanburg and surrounding areas. He later co-founded the R&B group Three Part Harmony, performing on major stages and in competitions, winning more than a dozen awards. It was during this period that Marcel began writing his own music — developing a deep passion for sharing stories through sound and creating music that comes directly from the soul.

With three studio albums, chart-topping releases, and recognition as a bestselling author, Marcel Anderson’s artistry blends soul, jazz, R&B, and inspirational gospel into a signature sound that transports listeners into another atmosphere. His latest single, “Better Days” featuring Rebecca Jade, topped the jazz charts and earned major recognition throughout the music industry.

Throughout his career, Marcel has shared the stage with legendary artists including Dave Koz, Jonathan Butler, Kirk Whalum, Regina Belle, Kenny Lattimore, Adam Hawley, Phil Denny, Chris Walker, and many more. He has performed at iconic venues such as St. James Live! (Atlanta, GA), Spaghettini’s (Seal Beach, CA), Catalina Island JazzTrax (Avalon, CA), and Marcus Anderson Jazz & Coffee Escape (MAJACE) in Durham, NC, delivering unforgettable live performances that connect deeply with audiences.

Drawing inspiration from timeless legends like Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Frankie Beverly & Maze, John Legend, Anthony Hamilton, and Bob Caldwell, Marcel Anderson’s music is rooted in heritage, faith, soul, and storytelling. Every performance reflects authenticity, emotional depth, and spiritual connection — making each show not just a concert, but a shared moment of meaning.

At the North Charleston Smooth & Gullah Jazz Music Festival, Marcel Anderson brings a performance defined by culture, community, and soul — a true celebration of sound, spirit, and human connection.
