Artist Spotlight: Tia DuRant

The Princess of Soul

Born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, Tia DuRant discovered her gift for music in the pews of her family’s church. What began as a child’s fearless voice soon grew into a signature sound: soulful, powerful, and instantly recognizable.

As her audience expanded, so did her stages. Tia quickly became known for show-stopping performances across the Carolinas, eventually headlining her celebrated production, “A Tribute to the Women of Soul,” honoring icons such as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, and more.

Her rising success led her to the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where she delivered a performance that marked a key turning point in her career — a moment confirming her role as one of the Southeast’s most electrifying and authentic soul vocalists.

She has since collaborated with regional and national acts, including jazz guitar virtuoso Terence Young, and has brought her high-energy set to venues including Middle C Jazz, Harbison Theatre, and the Sumter Opera House.

With a blend of gospel storytelling, R&B richness, and velvet-smooth vocal lines, Tia creates unforgettable moments for every audience she meets.
